Data Analytics, Optimization, and Control (DOC)

Our Data Analytics, Optimization, and Control Laboratory is dedicated to the synergistic application of these three essential disciplines, transforming complex data into robust, intelligent action. 

Our graduate program in Data analytics, Optimization, and Control aims to 

  • Harness data analytics to extract meaningful insights and predictive models from vast datasets
  • Utilize optimization techniques to design algorithms that find the most efficient and optimal solutions for complex decision problems, and
  • Develop advanced control strategies to ensure systems—ranging from autonomous vehicles to smart power grids—operate reliably, autonomously, and at peak performance. 

This integrated approach allows us to solve critical real-world challenges, pushing the frontier of intelligent systems, automation, and data-driven innovation across engineering, finance, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors. 

Research Highlights

  • Smart energy applications: solar power/solar irradiance/load forecasting using statistical methods and machine learning, home and building energy management, analysis of electrical energy yield of micro-inverter PV systems, estimation of transformer life-time using power quality data. 
  • Smart health applications: Statistical models or analysis of biological time series (ECG, PPG, EEG, fMRI), Brain connectivity analysis, Causality analysis of physiological time series, QRS detection, Arrhythmia Detection, Atrial Fibrillation, Heart rate variability, Epileptic EEG seizure detection, Cuff-less Blood pressure estimation, Signal denoising in ultrasound and CT scans, white-blood-cell image classifications.
  • AI-based solutions for other data-driven innovations such as robotics, 3D reconstruction, surveillance systems, and industrial automation.
