abstract = {Thailand has faced environmental issues that affect people all the time. Haze from the forest fires for instance is concerned as national problem that we confront every year. To determine the severity of smog conditions being a consequence of haze fire in some areas cannot be easily done. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) then could be easily used as a tool for surveying in such difficult burning areas. Furthermore having the environmental sensing devices developed and mounted on the UAV would be a worthy approach for monitoring environmental status in hazardous areas. This research was conducted to assemble the UAV and sensor device for measuring the environmental data including temperature, humidity and dust particle. The sensor was calibrated with reference devices. The field test was carried out in Nan province. Together with temperature, humidity and dust particle value, the location and time from GPS on UAV will be integrated correspondingly with environmental measuring data. Those entirely data will be imported to GIS and rendered in map form subsequently. © 2018, Chulalongkorn University. All rights reserved.},

abstract = {Technology becomes a part of human lives for decades, especially in human—computer interaction (HCI) that considered as the important research area involving with an assistive technology and a medical system. Hand gesture is classified as an intuitive method for human to interact with the computer. It is useful for elderly people who cannot express their feelings by words. This paper proposed the hand gesture recognition technique for the elderly by using contour detection with convex hull feature extraction and rule-based classification. Vision-based hand gesture recognition is considered in classifying six hand gestures as lingual description. From the experimental results, the hand gesture system provides good detection and classification results for all the six static hand gestures. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.},

abstract = {It is known that in-vehicle carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration tends to increase due to occupant exhalation when the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) air is in recirculation mode. Field experiments were conducted to measure CO2 concentration during typical commute in Bangkok, Thailand. The measured concentrations agreed with the concentration predicted using first-order mass balance equation, in both recirculating and outside air modes. The long-term transient decay of the concentration when the vehicle was parked and the HVAC system was turned off was also studied. This decay was found to follow Fickian diffusion process. The paper also provides useful operational details of the automotive HVAC system and fresh air ventilation exchange between cabin interior and exterior. Implications: Drivers in tropical Asian countries typically use HVAC recirculation mode in their automobiles. This behavior leads to excessive buildup of cabin CO2 concentration levels. The paper describes the CO2 buildup in a typical commute in Bangkok, Thailand. Auto manufacturers can potentially take measures to alleviate such high concentration levels. The paper also discusses the diffusion of CO2 through the vehicle envelope, an area that has never been investigated before. © 2017 A&WMA.},

abstract = {The relationship between humans and computers is called human computer interaction (HCI). HCI is a major research topic in the area of assistive technology. In the field of medical assistive technology specifically, a hand gesture is considered a suitable method to convey information. It can help elderly people, who are unable to walk or speak, communicate with caregivers whenever they need help. This paper proposes a system to recognize the hand gestures of elderly people using an inexpensive Raspberry Pi. A vision-based algorithm is developed to detect and classify dynamic hand gestures in real time on the Raspberry Pi embedded platform. There are three main procedures; contour detection, convex extraction, and rule-based classification. The system can detect six different gestures on both hands in various orientations. The experiment showed good results in detecting and classifying their meanings as lingual descriptions.},
