Biography: Nisai H. Fuengwarodsakul received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering in 1998 from King´s Mongkut University of Technology North Bangkok and his Master of Science and Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2001 and 2007 from RWTH-Aachen University, respectively.
Since 2007, he has been with The Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS), King’s Mongkut University of Technology North Bangkok as a lecturer/researcher. His research activities are in the area of power electronics, electrical drives, battery and electric vehicles. He was appointed as a full professor for the field of electrical engineering in 2018. He has been serving as Dean of The Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering since 2018 to present.
Abstract: Electrification of Transportation, i.e. electric vehicle, is the global trend for reaching zero carbon emission. For the next-generation vehicles, the conventional combustion engines are to be substituted by electric propulsion in order to reduce the global fossil fuel consumption. The key element of an electrical propulsion for electric vehicles is electric motor. This seminar will present the variety of electric motor technologies and technical requirements for different electric vehicles. Pros and Cons of each motor technology will be discussed. Some motor designs in commercial application examples will be also presented together with the future development trend.
